What: TN College Goal Sunday: enrollment and financial aid assistance
When: Sunday, February 14, 2010 - 2:00pm
Where: Various locations across the state
College Goal Sunday is sponsored by the Tennessee Student Assistance Corp. and other state agencies and foundations to provide families with assistance completing higher education financial aid applications.
The events will be staffed by "hundreds of professionals in the financial aid, admissions, secondary, and higher education communities," who will provide free assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and "question/answer sessions to benefit students and parents in different stages of the financial aid process."
The FAFSA form is also used to apply for the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship and the Tennessee Student Assistance Award programs.
Events will be held at 31 locations across the state on Sunday, Feb. 14th from 2PM to 4PM. Here is a list of locations. Knoxville area locations include Johnson Bible College, Pellissippi State Community College, C.W. Cansler YMCA, and Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge.

These help sessions are a great idea, but any planning to attend should note that Tennessee's deadline for state grant apps is February 15, the DAY AFTER this help session!

Also, while it's possible to file a FAFSA using estimated 2009 income, that approach requires filers to follow up with a second FAFSA app after they have filed their 2009 tax returns.
FAFSA filers may therefore want to file their 2009 tax returns before the date of this help session.
